Question:
Unfortunately, my stepdaughter sometimes eats non-kosher food with her biological father. I continue to try and influence her to make better decisions, but it is beyond my control. Normally, when she comes home I have her wash her hands which she does, however, I realized today that I have never thought about the possibility that her mobile telephone would track non-kosher residue into the house. For example, I am sure she would be playing on her phone while eating a piece of pizza. Anyway, would there be potential issues with her touching the phone and then something in our kosher kitchen? Or putting the phone down on our kitchen countertops?
Answer:
Hello,
There is no issue here, as even if there would be something there, it is only a minute amount, and not halachically mandated. It would be in your best interest not to make a deal over this, as it will make your stepdaughter upset with you, and it can cause her to dislike keeping halacha.
Best wishes
