Does God need us?

Question:

Does God need us?

Answer:

Hello,

Hashem doesn’t need us, He wants us. Hashem was fine before He created the world, and he has no need for us. However, as Ramchal in Derech Hashem chap. 1 writes, that the nature of good is to give to others. Hashem is the ultimate good, therefore He created the world in a way that he can give to us in the most positive way. That is that we should receive Hashem’s bounty without the feeling that what we are getting is a present, rather that we earned our reward. Being that Hashem wants to be able to reward us, He wants us, in order to be able to give to us, but He Himself  has no need for us.

Best wishes

  1. In December I decided to leave Christianity. I've been reading up about Judaism, I've been following the Noahide laws but I still feel that somethings missing... I want more!! I've decided to convert to Judaism. If I can't find a place to live near the community, does that mean I can't convert? I'm on limited funds ( disability) and prices on rentals have raised so much, I can't afford to move.. what can I do??

    1. It is nice that you are so serious about liviong a proper Jewish life. from a practical angle though, if you don't live in a Jewish community where they keep authentic Judaism, it will be difficult for you to fulfill the varous commandments properly.
I don't know where you live, but I would suggest that you contact a certified Bais Din that can advise you on this matter.
If you let me know what area you live in I might be able to help you find a reliable person whom you can contact.
