Question:
Is there any advice as to how a person should go about choosing a job or career . What factors should you take into account
Answer:
Hello,
This is a very general question, but I can give you some of my thoughts. When looking for a job, you have to take your nature, your talents, and interests into consideration. Does this job of field, provide you with your financial needs? Aside from that, what spiritual ramifications will this job have on you? The type of work, the environment has an impact and an effect on the person. For example, if the environment is promiscuous, whether it is because of the nature of the job, or due to the co-workers, etc. that is also something to take into consideration. Another point to consider, will this job take over your life, and negatively affect the other parts of your life, such as building a family, building your own self, etc. From a Jewish perspective, a job is a means, and only a means of providing a person with their financial needs, it is not meant to become the person’s identity, nor the person’s goal in life. According to the Torah, our job and goal in this world is not to make money rather, to build our personality, and to serve Hashem as best s we can. Making money is something that we can’t get around, but it shouldn’t become the goal of our lives.
Best wishes
