Dairy sponge used to wash pareve jar

Question:

We hand washed a pareve glass jar with metal lid using a dairy sponge. Is that a problem? We realized afterwards that may not be best bc what if dairy residue from sponge was left in jar or on metal lid. But since water was not hot – is it fine to continue using as pareve?
