Question:
Hello! I want to become Jewish however I don’t know how, can you help me? Thank you!
Answer:
Hello,
It is very nice that you want to take upon yourself to become Jewish. It is not easy, but if you are determined enough, you’ll make it.
There are a number of things that you would need to do, in order to become authentically Jewish. The first and most important one is that you have to understand that becoming Jewish is irreversible, and it means that you are accepting upon yourself all of the commandments, rabbinical decrees and Jewish customs. This will not be easy for you, but if you are determined enough, you can do it. You would also need to contact a Bais Din (Jewish court) that specializes in making conversions, and they will help you more with the process. Aside from accepting to do all of the laws, you would need to immerse yourself in a kosher mikva (ritual bath), and for men, get circumcised. But even before you contact a Bais Din it would be good for you to learn about Judaism as there is a lot to learn. I would suggest that you contact Ohr Someyach in Monsey at (845) 425-1370, and speak to them. They should be able to guide you to the correct addresses that you need.
Best wishes
