Giving tzedakah without knowing when you’ll pay it off

Question:

Hi Rabbi ,

Using the analogy of Shabbos , לוו עליי ואני פורע, take a loan for shabbos expenses and i-Hashe-m will pay it off , does it work the same for tzedakah if you dont have money to give tzedakah you can lend from the credit cartd and H-ashem will pay it off or its like עשה שבתך חול ועל תצטרך לבריות better to do your shabbos like a weekday but not to ask any help from people , so in this case not to give tzedaka when you have to ask the bank to pay for it till one day you’ll have the money to pay them back , whats the right approach ? Thank you

Answer:

Hello,

If you don’t have the money to give the tzedakah and essentially you can’t afford it, because you don’t have money, then you are exempt for giving the tzedakah. As a side point, when do we say, take loan and Hashem will pay it back, and when do we say better to minimize in the Shabbos expenses? The Poskim say that it depends if the person has a place that the money can come from, such as if he has a business, or he has where to pay back the loan from, but right now he doesn’t have the money. Theen he should borrow the money and Hashem will make sure it that he gets the money to pay it. However, a person who is very poor, should rather eat less on Shabbos, than to borrow the money, that he doesn’t where to pay it back.

Best wishes
