Question:
Shalom Aleichem Kvod Harav,
Would I be able to copy words here and there from a machzor into another machzor? and would the din be different if I am borrowing the machzor #1 from someone but who gives me his permission?
Brachah Ve'Hatzalahah,
Thank you very much!
Answer:
You are allowed to copy the words out of a machzor, into your own machzor. The words in the machzor are not the property of the publisher, as they were formulated hundred of years ago by the Rishonim, Geonim, etc. who made the nusach of the selichos.
Hashem should answer your prayers, and have a kesiva v’chasima tova.
Thank you so much Kvod Harav!
If the Rov doesn't mind I have a follow up question:
what if I want to copy the translation of the words?
Brachah Ve'Hatzlachah
If you are only copying a little bit and it is for private use, it is permitted.
