Ezrat Yisrael section of Kosel

Question:

Is there any halachic problem going to the Ezrat Yisrael section of the Kosel. (The place "designated" for Reform and Conservative prayer.)? I sometimes go there with my family and it is always deserted. Last time we went a lady said to us "it is assur to go there" although I can't see why. Also, does it make a difference whether one is learning, davening, eating breakfast, or just looking?

Answer:

Hello,

R’ Moshe Feinstein zt”l wrote that being that the Conservative and Reform deny many of the mitzvos, they are halachically considered deniers of the Torah, therefore we may not enter their places of worship, as this shows an affiliation with their ideas. Since Ezrat Yisrael, is designated as a place for their prayer it is the same as entering a Conservative or Reform Temple, something we don’t do. Entering it just for looking is not as bad, however unless there is a strong need to do so, R’ moshe write that it should not be done.

Best wishes
