Question:
My friend recently had a baby boy. His grandfather is a mohel however he is quite old and my friend assumed he no longer performs brisim. So he asked a different mohel. Then he discovered that his grandfather still does brisim for family members. He now feels that if he doesn't take his grandfather, then he is basically showing the family that he is no longer suitable. May my friend retract and use his grandfather for the bris?
Answer:
Hello,
Although normally we don't change mohel after asking for him to do the bris, similar to backing out when giving one's word to buy something. However in this instance being that it is evident (umdina dmukach) that his asking the mohel was a mistake, therefore he may retract, and use his grandfather for the bris.
Best wishes
