Tax in Israel counting towards ma'aser?

Question:

Hi there - I read this post but I do not see a specification for Israel vs. other countries. https://dinonline.org/2020/06/18/maaser-before-taxes-vs-after-taxes/
Since in Israel much of our tax burden goes towards Jewish public good, how would this psak differ if at all?

Thank you in advance,
Etan Efrati

Answer:

Hello,

The fact that there are things that the government does positively, hs no bearing on the halcha. As far as the taxpayer, he has to pay his taxes whether the money goes to fund sports events on Shabbos or to yeshivos. The taxpayer is not giving it to the yeshivos, it is the government that is. The bottom line is that the money is taken from the person's earnings, and the person's earning are calculated after these taxes are paid.

Best wishes
