My tallis had a small issue with the lining (the part near the head started coming apart), I took it to the local non Jewish tailor/dry cleaner to fix it. Did I do anything wrong? (Is there some halacha that really a Jew should fix a tallis? I can explain more details about what had to be stitched up if that matters)

There is no issue that I know of, with a non Jew fixing a tallis. The only potential issue that I would see here, is to make sure that the thread used for the tallis, was not linen thread, as the tallis itself is made of wool.
