Question:
Hi Rabbi,
I am wondering if it's ok to warm up food in a hot logic before Shabbos. Then unplug it before candlelighting but leave the food inside to keep warm. Then after Shabbos starts and we're ready have the meal, take it out? I'm not sure if it's a problem of insulating. The food inside would be in a covered disposable aluminum tray. (It's kind of like an insulated brief case that has an electric warming tray inside, it zips up and plugs in to the wall)
Thank you very much
Answer:
Hello,
Being that you are unplugging it from the electricity before Shabbos, and the food nor the device will not get hotter after the plug is removed, it is permitted to use since it is permitted to insulate food before Shabbos if the insulating material will only preserve heat but not add to it.
Best wishes
