Question:
Dear Rabbi,
I accidentally put out one of my oil burning wicks about 35 min into the night. I relit it because it was not sabbath but realize the light of this candle is not the same as the shamus.
Is this halachically sound ?
It seems that I can burn the oil out and the lamp still looks ok.
Answer:
Hello,
If the candles go out and there was enough oil in them for them to burn the full half hour, you don't have to relight it. The candles are supposed to be different than the shamus, in order to show that it is not one of the eight mitzva candles, rather only in order to give extra light. Therefore don't be concerned if they are different than the shamus.
Best wishes
