Question:
Can I give channukah gelt to my grandchildren with my maasser money?
Answer:
Hello,
It depends on the status of the grandchild. If the grandchild is living at home and supported by his parents, and has his financial needs met, i.e. he has enough spending money, then he is not poor, and maaser money should not be used for it. However, if the grandchild is married, and needs the money, which is very common with young Kollel families, or otherwise in need for the money, then you can use maaser money for it. You should however have in mind to use maaser money before giving it to them.
Best wishes
