Question:
Hi,
1. What is considered being supported in regards to maaser?
If my parents provide me with a house and food but I have to pay for everything else (car, clothing, medical etc.) Do I have to give maaser?
2. I also want to marry a learning boy and can't see them supporting me financially in the future- Can I put my maaser towards future savings?
Thank you!
Answer:
Hello,
- The idea here is not “supported or not”, rather if you have enough income for your needs,(plus saving to support yourself for a year, or money for a quarter of a year that you are doing business with it). Therefore, if after paying for your monthly expenses you have left over money, (plus money in savings) then you should give maaser.
- Right now, that you don’t actually need the money, the maser should be given to other people, and not kept for your self. IY”H after you get married, you will see the situation and you can ask then.
Hashem should send you your zivug hagun soon.
