Question:
- I am eating a snack (e.g. cake, fruit and a drink) and my wife comes home with the shopping. If I want to eat something she brings from the shops, would I need a new bracha?
- Does it make a difference if I am expecting her to bring the shopping?
Answer:
Hello,
- If you weren’t expecting her to bring back new things while you are eating then you would say a new bracha, because you didn’t have in mind to include the new food in your original bracha.
- However, if you knew at the time that you said the bracha that she is going to bring more food, then you wouldn’t have to say a new bracha. This would be similar to a guest, who makes a bracha, and is considered as if he had in mind to include whatever the baal habayis will give him to eat.
Best wishes
