Personal bakashos on Shabbos

Question:

My hebrew birthday falls out on Shabbos. Since there's a special koach hatefila on one's birthday, am I allowed to daven to personal bakashos that Shabbos?

Answer:

Hello,

While we may ask for ruchnius things, we don't ask for gashmius ones on Shabbos. Even when a person is sick, we don't say refuah sheleima, which is a tefilla, rather we say, "Shabbos he melizok u'refuah kerova lavo", e rest today from beseeching, and the zechus of Shabbos will bring hasten the person's recuperation". Meaning that, although we specifically don't daven on Shabbos for physical things, that very fact, that we are not davening, is a zechus that the person should get better.

It would be the same with the things that you want to daven for on your birthday. We don't daven for those things, and that in itself will IY"H be a zechus that H-shem should send you whatever you would otherwise daven for.

Best wishes
