Question:
I live in Africa in a country that doesn't allow conversions to orthodox Judaism and I discovered that Judaism is true, I am only a university student with no source of income, I have been scratching my head to come up with ideas to make money to be able to travel as soon as possible to a country that would allow me to convert. So, my question is, how do I merit to convert to Judaism as soon as possible? Thank You
Answer:
Hello,
It is wonderful that you realize that Orthodox Judaism is true. It is important to note however that, converting to Orthodox Judaism, means that you learn the mitzvot, and the myriad of laws that have to be kept, and accept upon yourself to keep them. Accepting all of the commandment, Rabbinical enactments, and Jewish customs is paramount to getting accepted for an Orthodox conversion. It will take time, and the Bais din ( Jewish court of law) will have to be convinced that you are serious about this. For example, if you are going to convert, but you are living in a country where no one else is Jewish, then realistically you will not be able to keep all of the mitzvos, and you won’t be accepted. On the other hand, a righteous gentile does have a reward in the world to come, by keeping the seven Noahide laws. You might be interested in doing that, which is a lot easier.
If however you want specifically to go ahead with a full conversion, let me know where you live, and I can try to get you some contact information to a Bais Din that you can talk to about this.
Best wishes
