Question:
Hello - if I have in mind in general (the whole year) that any money that I give to tzedaka should count as maaser (unless I have in mind otherwise), is there any problem if I gave matanas lievyonim without thinking that it should not be from maaser (ie, is it considered as though I used maaser money for matanas lievyomin) or would this be different than when I normally give tzedaka?
Thank you.
Answer:
Hello,
Essentially Matanos Levyonim can not be taken from maaser money, so that would not be an issue, and you wouldn't deduct it from maaser. If you have already fulfilled your obligation to give matanos levyonim, that money can be taken from maaser, if you would like it to be from maaser.
