Birchos HaShachar: sit now or stand later

Question:

Is it better for me to recite Birchos HaShachar now while sitting on the bus, or to wait until later on, when, im Yirtzeh HaShem, they will be recited standing.

Thank you.

Answer:

Hello,

There is a preference to saying Asher Yotzar[1] and Birkas HaTorah[2] standing, however they may be said sitting. In your situation, I would say that it depends on the circumstances. If you are davening other parts of davening in the car, and it is quite possible that you will forget to say the some of the brachos later, say them on the bus. The same would apply if you want to learn something in the car, or you will have more kavana if you say them in the on the bus, then you surely should say it even though you are sitting. However, if it isn’t going to make any difference, then wait.

As a side point, it is very b’dieved, and incorrect to say shemona esrei while sitting, and this should only be done if one is left with no choice, and the person has no other way to daven.  (This is something that unfortunately many women get used to doing, and it is incorrect, unless the woman has no other time to daven, but to wait until one is in the car, and daven sitting, is incorrect.)

Best wishes
