Sholosh Seudos on Shabbos Erev Pesach

Question:

Best method for Sholosh Seudos on Shabbos Erev Pesach

Answer:

Shalosh Seudos on Erev Pesach is a problem; we can’t eat bread, because the time of Shalosh Seudos is after Mincha Gedola, when we can’t eat chametz. We can’t either eat Matzoh or Matzoh meal cakes on Erev pesach. There are two basic solutions all of which are b'dieved, but we don’t have a choice. There are a few options;

  1. To split the morning meal in two; wash eat something, bentch, then take a little walk, wash again and finish the meal. There may not be enough time to do all of this before the end of the fourth hour, and according to many poskim, one is not yotza Shalosh serudos before the proper time.
  2. Eat meat, fish, or non-gebrokts cakes for שלש סעודות in the afternoon. For those who eat gebrokts, knaidlach may be eaten before the tenth hour of the day. Some people eat the Shabbos meal early, daven mincha early, and then eat a Pesachdik cholent after mincha for Shalosh Seudos.
