Question:
I pay chabad every week for Shabbos meals since I moved to another city about 6 months ago , but I pay the tourist price which is high, while the other locals pay much less or nothing. Can I subtract anything over the local price from my maaser, eg 75 of 100? I didn't negotiate a lower rate , I just know what people pay from talking to them. No local pays the full rate that I've talked to.
Answer:
Hello,
The money that you are giving them is not a donation, rather it is the price they charge for the meal that you are eating. Maybe there is something that you can work out with them, but otherwise, the difference should not come from maaser.
Best wishes
