Fast of the first born

Question:

Dear Rabbi,

Does this fast include women? If a boy is born after a daughter, is he considered the first born (son)? I am fasting but some have questions.

Thanks!

Answer:

The Ashkenazi Custom is that it does not include a first born girl.

A boy is born after a daughter is not considered the first born, and does not have to fast. If you go to a shul and hear a siyum, you can eat from it and you will not have to fast for the rest of the day.

Best wishes
