Acharon Shel Pesach

Question:

My husband's and my family do not eat fish on Pesach. My daughters married men who do eat fish and so they eat fish now on Pesach. On Acharon, my Father z"l was lenient with matzo, allowing us not to be so careful. My in-laws Z'l went all out..matzo balls and matzo latkes. I was told years ago by my Dayan z"l that I cannot eat by me daughters on Yom Tov (also use products I don't). So on Acharon, when we can eat by the girls, are we allowed to eat fish? Do we have to be Matir Neder to eat fish, as it is totally against our parents tradition? (I was told by my Dayan z"l that I cannot go against the minhagim of our parents..like I cannot use garlic even though it is grown in a greenhouse, not like in Europe)

Answer:

Hello,

The chumros that people do on Pesach such as not eating gebrotz, not "mishing", abstaining from certain products, are usually not kept on the 8th day of Pesach, in order to show that it is only a chumra. Being that acharon shel Pesach is only d'rabonon many people are lenient regarding these extra chumros. Therefore unless know that your family keeps them for acharon shel Pesach you can be lenient, and eat by your daughters, and eat fish.

Best wishes
