Money question

Question:

On February 5th, I bought 2 bottles of nutritional powder from Amazon, totaling $55.96. I took them on a trip to Israel. I opened one, and it nauseated me, so I didnt use it. I didnt open the other. On March 20, I started a chat to see if i can return the items by any chance, and the Amazon representative said he WILL refund me and I can keep both items. I assume they don't take back food items, and i know time had passed and i opened one, but he told me he will refund me and I should donate or dispose of the items. I reached out to some friends in Israel and they didnt know of a food pantry to drop it to, but one of them said she would use it if I wanted to give to to her. So I did. On April 25th, I still didnt receive the refund from Amazon, so I contacted them again. The representative said the refund from March never went through so he will do it for me now. On May 11th, the refund still didnt go through. I reached out for a third time, the representative told me that it's NOW past the 30 days for a return so they cant help me with this order anymore. I started this process in March, they can see my chat history (past 30 days, but I know from experience, representatives can still help after 30 days). But the representatives just kept repeating that there is no way they can do anything for me because 30 days is now past.... So I gave away the item and I dont have a refund.... Honestly I figured it was a long shot that they'd refund me to begin with.... My question now is: 1) Can I dispute the charge with my credit card company- since two Amazon representatives TOLD me I would be refunded for it, and the refund never came through. Maybe it's not part of their policy to accept back food items or after a certain time, but they TOLD me I can get refunded for this twice. Or 2) it was a long shot anyway, so dont dispute the charge but write it off as a "donation"- is it considered a donation because I gave it to a Jewish girl in Israel who said she would use it? or 3) do nothing?
Thank you for your guidance

Answer:

Hello,

What you can do is to speak with the credit card company, but be honest with them, and tell them the story exactly the way you wrote it here. If they will decide to reverse the charge, then it is fine.

Best wishes
