Question:
The eruv around our shul has been made smaller, so that it no longer includes our house. As an older woman, I have regularly carried a card with name and emergency contact to shul and do not feel comfortable without it. Could I buy appropriately personalized clothing labels and sew them inside my blouses and hats (permanently) to carry identification outside the eruv? (Your answer about washing instruction labels might imply that this is all right, but I want to be sure.) Until I have an answer, I will prayerfully walk without ID.
Answer:
Hello,
You are right. If the label is sewn into the garment, and you want it to be a part of the garment from now on, it is considered part of the garment, and you may walk outside with them on Shabbos even where there is no eruv.
Best wishes
