Using money maybe meant for the poor

Question:

Hello, I am a Yeshiva student in Israel. before Pesach when I was out of Yeshiva I helped pack box's to be delivered to the poor for Pesach. The person in charge of the operation went up to me and gave me a 200 N.I.S spending card for a supermarket. I tried protesting but he said that he didn't have anything to do with it and that I deserved it. Can I use that card or since I don't know who originally donated the money towards that card and most likely he meant it for a poor person should I try find a poor person to give it to?

Answer:

Hello,

You may use the card, because the tzedakah is allowed to use parts of the money for their expenses, and if the gabbai of the tzedakah feels that the organization should give you a gift, it is permitted to use it. Bear in mind that what you did, was helping out all those poor people to get their packages.

Best wishes
