Question:
If we need to spend Friday night in a protected space, which is mainly airtight, can we light candles outside that space with a bracha?
Answer:
Hello,
You can, however make sure to eat some bread over there, or make sure to benifit from the candles in some other way. This is because in order to do the mitza and make sure your bracha isn't l'vatala, you need to either have the candles near the place that you are eating the Shabbos meal, or at least that you should benefit from the light of the candles. Another option would be to turn on the electric lights in the place that you will be lighting, and then light your Shabbos candles, and this way by merely walking into the room that the candles are in, you will be considered to have benefitting from them.
But IY"H all of this will not be applicable, and things will be calm and quiet tonight.
Have a quiet, peaceful Shabbos.
