Question:
Hi, on Friday afternoon before the eighteen minutes were up, I accepted shabbos and said Kabbalas shabbos. During the 18 minutes, we realized that there was still a kugel in the oven that could potentially burn and smoke if left in over shabbos. My mother and I thought that since it was before shkiya, I can make a t’nai and say had I known the kugel was still in there, I wouldn’t have accepted shabbos and take it out. I did so, causing the light to turn on and off. My father then came home from shul a few minutes later and said that I wasn’t allowed to do that even though it was before shkiyah. How do I go about doing teshuva? I have charatah and bli neder said that next time I’m this situation, I will err on the side of caution. Is that good? Thank you for your time!
Answer:
Hello,
Besides for charata, you also need to say viduy, which express verbally to Hashem, that you sinned. Aside from that I would suggest that you study the halachos about accepting Shabbos early, and what may or may not be done then. This way you will know what to do if something like this happens again.
Best wishes
