Question:
Hello Rabbi,
I realized I stained the bait of my tefilin shel rosh with pilot pen black ink (and i fear it is not kosher). It was on the sides of the tefilin (were the shin are). I whiped it carefuly with cotton and i know it must have gone of. However, since the ink is black it didn't leave a stain, so i'm not sure if i've cleaned it enough or not. Thank you for your time and help.
Answer:
Hello,
In consultation with an expert in this topic, he said that the main issue here it that the ink was not lishma. Therefore, what you should do is get some kosher paint for the tefillin, and paint over that part with intention that it should be lishmo. ( I hope that it will be the same shade of black so that the tefillin won’t long funny.)
Best wishes
