Removing meat from teeth on shabbos

Question:

Hi Rabbi,
Sometimes on shabbos day, I will find some meat stuck in my teeth when I would like to eat dairy. How should I go about removing it without flossing so that I can eat the dairy?
Thank you

Answer:

If you gums are not sensitive, and will not necessarily bleed, you may gently floss your teeth, to remove the meat that is stuck. You can try it out during the week, and if you see that flossing doesn't automatically cause your teeth to bleed, you can floss on Shabbos.

Best wishes

  1. Thank you for answering, if this was not possible, would just rinsing with water be sufficient or eating something pareve? The flossing seems pretty much fine, just wondering if there is something else I could do.

    1. You are talking about meat that is stuck between your teeth even 6 hours after eating, which means that it is stuck in pretty strongly. If you think that will actually do the job then it would be alright. Practically it doesn't seem that eating something pareve or rinsing will actually dislodge the food.
