Question:
Hi! I am 30, I have been making money since childhood- work and gifts. Once I had adult jobs, with government forms, I for sure gave maaser, but as a kid when I worked (after bat mitzvah) as a tutor or babysitter or selling other things - I may or may not have given maaser; and I definitely never gave on all the gift money I received in my life (I just found out tonight that gifts are included in the obligation to give maaser).... Even the ma'aser I gave over the years I don't have a paper trail of- until recently, I gave cash, so I can't even reverse calculate based on what I donated, to figure out from the balance of my savings what I owe. I don't see how I can fix this. What do you recommend? (Of course, going forward I intend to be more careful)... Thanks for your help!
Answer:
Hello,
Right now go forward, however in the event that you remember of find income that you know you didn’t give maaser, so you will give maaser on that income. As a side point, I hope that you said hatoras nedarim, as some point, to make sure that your giving maaser should not have been a neder.
Best wishes
