Question:
I was wondering two things about rosh Hashana
1. In kiddush we say its a zeicher to yetzias mitzrayim what is the connection to yetzias mitzrayim
2. I was also wondering in Nechemiah Perek Ches we say to eat fatty foods and send gifts to others, is there an inyan of mishloach manos on rosh hashanah?
Thank you
Answer:
Hello,
- We can really make your question bigger, during kiddush on Shabbos we also say zecher l'yetzias Mitzrayim, and we know that shabbos is because Hashem created the world? One of the answers given for this (It could be the Brisker Rav says this), that although Shabbos is because Hashem created the world, but it was at Yetzias Mitzrayim that we became his chosen nation, and we therefore given the mitzva of Shabbos. It would be the same idea with Rosh Hashana, we have this special day, and the opportunity to blow the shofar, and get a good year, because Hashem commanded us to do it. Which is because he took us out of Mitzrayim, and then gave us the Torah.
- The terminology is that we should give manos to those who don't have (l'ain nachon lo). While there is no formal mitzva, we can fulfil this by having needy guest at our table even on Rosh Hashana, or by donating money to help those who need money for the Yom Tov.
