Question:
If I have non frum relatives and some of their cousins not related to me are getting cremated r”l. What is my achrayis to stop it? What if my involvement would cause major shalom bayis problems as my parents are very close to the said cousin whose relative will r'l be getting cremated?
Answer:
Hello,
It is hard to answer you properly without knowing your capabilities, in being able to stop them from doing the cremation, and your relationship to the relatives of your cousin. In general, though, often it is the deceased person himself that wanted the cremation, and usually the relatives are unfortunately going to respect the deceased person’s wishes. If your knowledge of the situation is such that in all probability they will not listen to you, then you don’t have to say anything, and it might even be better not to say anything, as it won’t kelp anyways, and will only cause friction without any positive outcome.
Hashem should help these people realize, that they have a future, in olam haba, and techias hameisim, and that by cremating themselves, and demonstrating that they don’t believe in it, they are forfeiting their right to it. Which is eternally unfortunate.
Best wishes
