Is it permitted for me to use foam earplugs on shabbos that I need to squeeze before placing them in and they then expand to their normal shape? Would any melacha be done by doing this?

I am not aware of any issue with this. It is not considered changing the shape of the earplug, because it is meant to be used this way, and it goes back to its original shape right afterwards.
