Visiting shuls as museums

Question:

I'm in Budapest. There is the largest shul in Europe which is now inactive. It was Neolog (local conservative of that time). Can I visit it for a tour? Is it still considered a shul and if it is is there prohibition to visit non-orthodox shuls? Is there kedushas beis hakneses.
Thank you

Answer:

Hello,

It is permitted to visit it. First of all, my understanding is that it was modern orthodox, but not actually conservative. Secondly, even if it was conservative, being that it is no longer functioning, there is no longer an issue of maris ayin to enter it. Therefore it can be visited.

Best wishes
