Question:
Just an interesting question a talmid asked, obviously one can not make a cheeseburger, however in a situation where one has put it together, does putting lettuce in between the burger and cheese act as a mafsik, and therfore stop the cheese touching the meat?
Answer:
Hello,
It is questionable if it helps, because we say tata’ah govar, that the heat of the bottom piece, which would be the hot meat makes the lettuce and the cheese hot. If that were the case then the cheese got the hot taste of the burger, and it might still be real basar bcholov.
However, his question is only theoretical, because both Burger King and McDonalds place the cheese directly on to the meat, and it is heated up together, (bishul). They won’t put lettuce in between the two and cook it that way, because the lettuce will get soggy and wilt.
Best wishes
