Question:
Is there such a concept of hilchos yichud when it comes to having a private WhatsApp chat between a male employer and female employee? If it is permitted are there any guidelines or halachos to be kept?
Answer:
Hello,
There is no formal prohibition of yichud, as the two of you are not secluded together. However, there are many pitfalls, and unfortunately many times when improper relationships develop. As everyone is dressed nicely, on their best behavior, and over time, the yetzer hora creeps in. There it is important that you make sure to keep the relationship strictly to business, and make sure that the relationship stay completely formal. It is little awkward at first, but all those that have to get the message will understand it, and eventually respect it. I would recommend that you buy the book, “Making it all work” by Ari Wasserman. This book gives many tips, and guidelines, that are important for any woman working in an office etc. In order to ensure that a healthy distance is kept.
Best wishes
Is there a halachic issue with addressing each other in first person/informally, which is only shayach in Yiddish? For example, in English "you can come" is used across the board. In Yiddish you say either "ir kent kimmen" (plural/formal) or "du kenst kimmen" (singular/informal).
I don't think this is an issue.
