I have a menorah where it has 9 holes for the oils but the shamash is not differentiable.
Is this an issue? If it is, is it fine to make a line by the last hole with a marker to “separate” it? Which side should that be?

Hello,
The Shamash has to be noticeably different, so that people will not confuse which day of Chanukah it really is. Making a ling on the menora will not help, because the problem is that when people see the flames, they look like they are in one line together. What has to be done is to find away to lift the shamash, so that it's flame is higher than the rest of the other flames.
