Question: copy q redo ques
I was unable to fast on the Tenth of Tevet, as I was recovering from a debilitating illness involving dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting on the preceding day.
I am considering whether it is appropriate to make up the missed fast, and wondered if it would be possible to undertake an alternative fast by expressing such an intention during Mincha on the preceding day.
Does halacha require one to compensate for a missed obligatory fast? It appears that, even should I undertake another fast, it may not truly serve as a substitute for the one I was regretfully unable to observe.
Answer:
Hello,
Since you were unwell on the day of the fast, you were halachically exempt from its observance and are not obligated to make it up. If you wish, and it is within your means, it is commendable to donate to charity the equivalent value of the food you would have consumed during the fast.
