Question:
In Nusach Ashkenaz minyanim, I’ve noticed that people who daven Sfard sometimes answer Nakdishach instead of Nekadesh, and in Nusach Sfard minyanim, people who daven Ashkenaz sometimes answer Nekadesh instead of Nakdishach.
My understanding is that Kedusha, as a davar sheb’kedusha, should be said according to the nusach of the tzibbur.
Is there a valid basis to rely on for answering Kedusha according to one’s own nusach even when the minyan uses a different nusach, or does one davka need follow the nusach of the minyan?
Practically, I don’t mind switching depending on the minyan, but it would be easier to consistently keep one nusach if there is what to rely on.
Answer:
Hello,
A person in a place that follows a different minhag than their own should not change from the local minhag, so it doesn’t look like there are two sets of minhagim. Therefore, things that are said out loud, such as kedusha and chazaras hashatz, should be said according to the minhag of the shul. However, things that are said quietly, such as Shemona Esrei, may be said in the person’s usual nusach.
Best wishes
