Question:
- I understand that nail polish needs to be removed before going to the Mikvah (which can be a deal-breaker for me, whether or not to go, since the Mikvah is a very hard thing for me overall). My question is whether there's a difference between nail polishes. It was brought to my attention that if I'm wearing gel (strong) polish that lasts for a while and has no cracks, it would be okay to go to the Mikvah without taking it off. Is that correct, and is there a heter for that?
- In addition, I know that tattoos are NOT allowed, but I'm really struggling with it and I'm strongly considering getting one. My question is, if I get one that's not permanent and only lasts a year, fading away on its own over time, is there an issue with the Mikvah with such a tattoo?

- As you write, there is controversy about wearing nail polish when going to the mikva. Although it is preferred to remove all nail polish before going to the mikva, if it is difficult for you and it looks nice and doesn’t have any cracks, you may go with it on. (Before going, make sure your mikva will allow this.)
- Tattoos are not an issue for the mikva, as they are not considered a “chatzitza”. However, Judaism has another general issue with tattoos, as there is a specific negative commandment not to get a tattoo. The general consensus among the Rabbis is that this applies even to semi-permanent tattoos, or what is termed “permanent makeup”. Therefore, it is strongly advised not to get any tattoos.
