Is there an issue use a razor on a beard or face if you are not shaving down the beard just trimming it and leaving a significant part of the beard.

Good question.
Technically there are only five places of one’s beard, ( below the peyos) that are prohibited to shave with a razor. However, the Shulchan Aruch Y:D 181-11writes that since there is much controversy as to where these places are, therefore we don’t shave any part of the beard with a razor.
