Question:
- When flying out of Israel, the zmanim sometimes work out where I can either daven maariv at the airport or once I land. For someone flying out of Israel, is it better to daven b’derech at the airport in Israel (or on the plane before taking off) or once one is settled in at their destination after landing?
- What if there’s a minyan at the airport but no minyan when landing?
- What if one would need to daven alone at the airport but could daven with a minyan when landing?
- What if one would be davening maariv after plag (before shkiyah) at the airport vs. after shkiyah or tzeitz if they waited until they landed?
Answer:
Hello,
- When traveling, you never know what can happen. There can be unexpected delays, or a situation when you won’t be able to daven altogether. Therefore, it is best to daven at the first opportunity, and try concentrating as best as you can.
- This is especially if you won’t have a minyan where you land.
- Even if you will have a minyan later, it is still better to daven now, even though it is byichidus.
- Even if you would daven maariv after plag, before shkiya, because you are yotza davening maariv this way, and you don’t know what will be in the future. Just make sure to repeat shema at the right time.
