Plag Hamincha

Question:

Is there anything wrong with davening Mincha before Plag and Maariv right after Plag during the week or should it only be done on Erev Shabbos? Is it any better or worse than doing the same thing at Shkiah? Must it be done regularly or can it be on random days?
Thank you!

Answer:

Hello,

Since our minhag is to daven Mincha until shkiya, we do not daven Maariv until later, unless someone is stuck or in an unusual situation. We do it on Friday night to bring in Shabbos earlier, but otherwise, it is not done.

Doing it with shkiya is worse because then you are not doing like any opinion, since you davened mincha after plag and it is not yet the time for maariv according to that opinion.

Best wishes

  1. I think the second question is asking about praying mincha before sunset and maariv after. Is that better than praying before and after plag?

    1. If he prayed right after sunset before the stars come out, it is worse, because this is not like any opinion at all.
