I have 20cm mezuzah cases. A 12cm strip of double sided tape was included. May I attach the strip in the center 12cms or is the case required to be attached to the doorpost at top and bottom, requiring that I cut the strip into 2 pieces? (The case will stay well attached either way.)

It does not have to specifically be attached at the top and bottom, and the center is fine, as long as the mezuza is firmly attached to the door post.
