Beis avel - davening in front of pictures

Question:

Shalom. Often times when a person davens in a beis avel, the family has artwork or photographs on the walls where the minyan is, usually with images of people in them. Is it problematic to daven Shemoneh Esrei while facing these pictures?

Answer:

Hello,

It is preferable not to daven Shmona Esrei in front of any picture because it distracts our concentration. However, if you don't have a choice, either close your eyes or look in the siddur.

One should not daven in front of a picture of a person, similar to not davening in front of a mirror, because it looks as if the person is bowing to the picture. You can face them, but don’t daven in front of them.

Best wishes
