Krias Shema

Question:

Hi,
If I go to bed after alos hashachar, can I say krias shema before going to bed and be yotzei krias shema then (if I feel like I will miss zeman krias shema but I will make zman tefillah)?
Thanks

Answer:

Hello,

Essentially, we should not say kriyas shema before the zman to put on tefillin (misheyakir). However, b’dieved, if you don’t do it more than once a month, you are yotza. If you are under extenuating circumstances, it would be permitted.

On the other hand, you should not go to sleep at that time unless you have a clear system to wake up in time for zman tefillah (4 hours). Since it is already within half an hour of the time to daven, we may not do other things that could cause us to miss the zman.

Best wishes
