When we are in the middle of Birkas Kriyas Shema, we may not talk out. If a friend asks you a random question, we have to signal to them that we cannot talk now. Later on, after you finish Shemon Esrei, you can explain it to them. It will be temporarily awkward, but don't worry. They won't be insulted and will understand you.
