Question:
Hi! If water is the first ingredient in bread, does that make it shehakol? Why WOULD someone think that?
Answer:
Hello,
Looking at the first ingredient in a food doesn't automatically determine its bracha. For example, if an energy bar contains a mixture of fruits and vegetables, and the first ingredient is 30% haetz, the second is 26% hoadomo, and the third is 25% hoadomo, the food will be hoadomo, as that is the majority. Secondly, whenever we have flour in a mixture, unless it is used merely as a binder, it becomes the "iker". Therefore, the wheat is the iker, and the bracha may be Hamotzei. Secondly, by the time it is finished baking, the water has basically evaporated.
I can't explain what other people would think.
Best wishes
